HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Hays County Sheriff’s officials are looking for a man they say tried to kidnap a woman outside a Dollar General store. The incident happened Wednesday around 6:30 p.m. when a man in a red Ford Ranger tried to force the woman in the store parking lot into his truck. The woman had just come out of the store at FM 2325 and Carney Lane in Wimberley and was heading to her car when the man grabbed her and tried to kidnap her, officials say. The woman managed to free herself and called police once she got home.

Many folks who live in the peaceful, rural community were stunned to hear the news.

“That it’s almost impossible for it to happen in Wimberley,” was Leesa Morgan’s reaction. “Everybody knows everybody. We don’t lock out doors.”

“It’s terrifying, it’s terrible,” Diane Grossman added. “This is a safe community, we want to keep it that way.”

But one longtime resident sees a change.

“Hard to know something like that happens here,” said Charlie Reinecke, “but we’re not the little bedroom community everybody thought we were 30 years ago.”

Suspect description

  • white man between 5 feet 9 inches tall and 6 feet tall
  • short burr-style haircut and a stubble sandy blonde beard
  • wearing a camouflage shirt/jacket and blue jeans

This is an ongoing investigation. Police say that because they “have not received any additional calls of this nature in the Wimberley area,” they consider this an isolated incident. Anyone with information regarding this case should contact the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 512-393-7896 and ask to speak with the Criminal Investigations Division. You may contact the Hays County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-324-TIPS (8477). You may also submit your information electronically from the link on the Hays County Crime Stoppers website or by using the free “TipSubmit” application from a smart phone.
