AUSTIN (KXAN) — Fire and police crews at Austin Bergstrom International Airport have determined a package that tested positive for potential explosives was actually a box containing computer parts.

According to Jim Halbrook, a spokesperson for ABIA, around 7 p.m. a Southwest Airlines employee was scanning cargo when one of the items showed up positive for potential explosives. HazMat crews were able to determine within a few hours that the box only had computer parts and no explosives.

Halbrook says operations at the airport were never impacted.

This isn’t the first time items in the cargo area have tested positive. In December 2013, a cargo item was flagged for potential explosives but ended up being cleaning solvent. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
