Larry Jackson Jr. supporters want court delays to stop

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Supporters of Larry Jackson Jr. protested Tuesday night, calling on a judge to stop delaying the trial of former Austin Police Det. Charles Kleinert.

The group also called on the judge to keep the case in district court while during their meeting outside district court. Kleinert’s lawyers asked to move the case to federal court after claiming the detective was working as part of a federal task force at the time of the shooting.

The now-retired Kleinert was indicted on manslaughter charges in May 2014 in the shooting death of Jackson following a struggle and chase the year before. He pleaded not guilty to those charges.
