Menendez voted to Senate; Cyrier, Bernal, Schubert to House

AUSTIN (AP) — Four midterm special-election runoffs have filled a state Senate vacancy and three in the Texas House.

In a race between San Antonio Democrats, state Rep. Jose Menendez’s 60 percent of the vote beat fellow Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer for the Senate seat Democrat Leticia Van de Putte left to run for San Antonio mayor.

Democrat Diego Bernal’s 63 percent of the vote defeated Republican Nunzio Previtera to succeed state Rep. Mike Villarreal, who also resigned to run for San Antonio mayor.

John Cyrier’s 52 percent of the vote defeated fellow Republican Brent Golemon to succeed Lexington Republican Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt, who resigned to become general counsel of the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Leighton Schubert’s 59 percent of the vote defeated fellow Republican Carolyn Bilski to succeed Brenham Republican Rep. Lois Kolkhorst, who won a state Senate seat in a previous special election.
