Mardi Gras No Refusal in effect Tuesday night

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Even though Austin’s Mardi Gras doesn’t compare to its flagship in New Orleans, Austin police still want to make sure people celebrating Fat Tuesday get home safely. That means they will be enforcing a “No Refusal” initiative, beginning Tuesday evening. The No Refusal starts at 9 p.m. and will end at 5 a.m.  Wednesday.

Those found to have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.15 or above will be charged with a Class A misdemeanor, which carries a maximum sentence of one year confinement in jail and a $4,000 fine for the first-time offenders.
