Man killed after vehicle hits tree in NE Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin Police said a man was killed and a woman injured when a vehicle slammed into a tree in Northeast Austin early Sunday. The crash happened after 1 a.m. in the area of Millrace Drive and Loyola Lane.

Police say the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the road. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash.

The man driving the car, identified as 22-year-old Andrew Ibarra, died at the scene.

Police say his passenger was ejected from the vehicle and transported to UMC Brackenridge with life-threatening injuries.

This case is still being investigated and anyone with information is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-5576.

This was Austin’s 14th deadly traffic crash and the 14th death of 2015. At this time in 2014, there were five deadly crashes and seven deaths.
