Police: Woman killed after running stop sign

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A two-vehicle crash on South Capital of Texas Highway left a woman dead Thursday afternoon. It happened just before 12:30p.m. in the 1700 block of S. Capital of Texas, south of Westbank Drive.

Police say 82-year-old Mae Ina Scherff was killed when a pickup crashed into her Chevy Equinox after she ran a stop sign at Parkstone Heights Drive. Scherff was pronounced dead at the scene by Austin-Travis County EMS.

The driver of the pickup was found to have injuries that were not life-threatening.

This was Austin’s 13th deadly traffic crash and the 13th death of 2015. At this time in 2014, there were five deadly crashes and seven deaths.
