Burglary in East Austin turns into SWAT situation

SWAT incident on Northwestern Avenue.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department’s SWAT team was called out on its third incident in the past seven days. Thursday evening’s incident stems from a burglary that happened around 5:20 p.m. in the area near Northwestern Avenue in East Austin.

When officers arrived at the scene, they were able to apprehend three suspects but believed a fourth suspect might have gone into a home in the 1100 block of Northwestern Avenue. Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said officers caught the suspects walking out of the home with TVs in their hands.

The SWAT team was called around 6:30 p.m. to determine whether or not a person is inside the home. Shortly before 11 p.m., officers determined there was no one in the home and cleared the scene.
