Child rescued from river amid Taiwan plane wreckage

TAIPEI, Taiwan (CNN/TVBS) — What you are about to see is incredible: a child pulled from the wreckage of a plane crash — seemingly unharmed. Watch as rescuers cradle the young child. Not everyone was as lucky.

At least 31 people died Wednesday when a passenger plane clipped a bridge and plunged into this river. It happened shortly after takeoff in Taipei, Taiwan.

Rescuers worked to pull survivors from the submerged wreck, and 58 people were on board. Officials say the pilot and two co-pilots died in the crash.

The flight and voice data recorders have been recovered from the wreckage. They may help investigators figure out why this plane went down. Audio from an air traffic control recording shows someone gave a mayday call shortly before the plane crashed. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
