Polar bear roams London streets for ‘Fortitude’

LONDON (NBC/RTV) – A life-like polar bear roamed through the streets of the British capital, leaving many people in London stunned. The 8-foot-tall puppet animal made its way on Tuesday to Charing Cross Underground Station attempting to board a train. Commuters turned their heads when they noticed the giant animal walking along the platform.

The polar bear eventually reappeared in between crowds of tourists who were crossing the Thames River through Millennium Bridge toward London’s Southbank. Many people stopped to take pictures of the animal, with many others commenting how realistic it looked.

The giant animal is operated by two puppeteers who have studied the movements of real polar bears to make the prop animal’s movements look as real as possible. The polar bear was released as part of a promotional stunt to mark the launch of the new British drama TV series “Fortitude,” which premieres Thursday on U.K. AND U.S. television.

Another cool polar bear video, this time with a REAL one. A wildlife cameraman — inside a clear cage — comes face-to-face with a fierce polar bear in its domain.
