Man drowns at McKinney Falls State Park

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Rescue crews pulled a man from the water Thursday afternoon at McKinney Falls State Park. Austin-Travis County EMS officials said the man was underwater for about 50 minutes.

Crews transitioned their search for the man, later identified as 29-year-old Andrew Yoon, to a recovery situation after 30 minutes of looking. They found his body nearly 20 minutes later near the Upper Falls and he was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.

The man, who was is in 20s, apparently started to struggle after diving into the water, according to ATCEMS Division Chief Eric Jakubauskas. He was with a friend, but the friend was not with him in the water at the time. The man was from out of town and was visiting friends.

Jakubauskas said the water temperature was about 60 degrees. A STAR Flight helicopter was also used to help look the man.
