AUSTIN (KXAN) — A bus driver’s attempt to get a meal at a drive-thru restaurant turned into a short chase in Southeast Austin on Monday afternoon. According to Austin police, the incident started just before 4 p.m. at a Taco Bell in the 1900 block of Airport Boulevard. Police say the driver of a charter bus was trying to go through the drive-thru but ended up hitting the building and a dumpster.

Instead of staying, the bus driver left the scene, and when officers caught up with the driver, he led the officers on a short chase that ended on U.S. Highway 183 near Thurgood Avenue. After the bus stopped, police say the two people on the bus — a man and a woman — refused to come out. Around 5 p.m., the woman climbed out through a window, and authorities detained her.

A SWAT team arrived on the scene about 5:30 p.m. to convince the man to surrender. The situation ended peacefully about an hour later.
