East Austin fire leaves three people homeless

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Three people are looking for a place to stay after fire damaged two homes in East Austin Monday night. The two homes were rentals on the lot at 1607 Clifford Ave.

When firefighters pulled up about 11 p.m. Monday, they found fire shooting from a laundry room that was between the two homes. The fire was quickly spreading to the two houses. AFD spokesman Palmer Buck said firefighters were able to get the fire under control in two minutes, and it took just 10 minutes to put the fire out.

No one was injured in the fire. Three people were staying in the two homes on the lot. The back house had significant damage, and the person who rented that house is now without a home. The front house had minor damage, and the two people living there were renters who were in the process of moving out.

The fire caused about $100,000 in damages. Fire investigators are still looking into a cause.
