AUSTIN (KXAN) — The University of Texas at Austin is one step closer to having a new president.

The search committee that will pick the new leader narrowed down the list of candidates, but that list is not public. First and second-round interviews were held this month, and the Search Advisory Committee is now deciding which candidates will be recommended to the Board of Regents.

The board will interview those candidates in February. The university’s new president will be named in March, according to a timeline provided by the university.

Current President Bill Powers will step down this summer.
