Three more adults die from the flu in Travis County

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In the past five days, three more adults in Travis County have died due to the flu, bringing the number to 12 flu-related deaths for this flu season, according to the Austin/Travis County Health Department.

Last week, the county had its first influenza-associated pediatric death; the child had several underlying health conditions.

Last flu season, Travis County had 22 deaths, including three children.

According to the Texas Department of State Health, most flu cases in the 2014-2015 flu season have been caused by the H3N2 strain, often associated with more severe illness and more hospitalizations and deaths. So far this season, six Texas children have died from the flu.
