AUSTIN (KXAN) – The upper deck of southbound Interstate 35 was closed in Austin for several hours Monday due to a raw sewage spill. Authorities said the trailer was carrying animal waste.

The Austin Fire Department and TXDOT HAZMAT crews showed up around noon to assist with clean up.

Clean-up crews had difficulty getting the waste through their equipment, police say, and the roadway did not reopen until after 6 p.m.
