AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man is dead after he was hit by a car on South Congress Avenue Sunday night, according to Austin police. Officers responded to the 8400 block of South Congress Avenue near Ralph Ablanedo Drive about 7:40 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said Mark David Perry, 49, was walking in the left lane of southbound traffic when a 2011 Toyota Corolla hit him. Paramedics performed CPR on Perry and took him to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died around 8:15 p.m., police said.

The driver who hit the Perry stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to APD. Detectives do not suspect the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Southbound lanes of South Congress were closed in the area as detectives investigated.

This was Austin’s sixth deadly traffic crash of 2015 and the sixth traffic death of 2015. At this time in 2014, there were two deadly crashes and three traffic deaths. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
