Google Fiber goes live in several South Austin neighborhoods

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Nearly two years after Google announced it was bringing Google Fiber to Austin, some homes in South Austin are finally connected to the grid.

The area that is seeing the most installations is Bainbridge Villas apartment complex on Southridge Drive. According to Mark Strama of Google Fiber, they will ramp up installs the Bluebonnet fiberhoods after sign-ups close in those fiberhoods on January 29.

Last month, Google opened Fiber Space at 201 Colorado St. At the Fiber Space, customers are able to test-drive the gigabit Internet speeds.

The Fiber Space is open to the public from 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and from noon-5 p.m. on Sundays. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
