SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — San Marcos police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year, a shooting that left one man dead and a teen seriously hurt. Both are from San Antonio. Officers responded to the Townwood Apartment complex in the 500 block of Linda Drive at 11:14 p.m. Monday.

“This does not appear to be a random incident,” said Assistant Police Chief Bob Klett. “The investigation is in its early stages, but information developed at this point does not indicate a threat to the safety of the general public.”

Police responded to a 911 call about shots fired and reports by apartment neighbors of a person lying on the ground late Monday night. Police got to the complex to find Earl Edward Clark III, 42, dead with multiple gunshot wounds in a common area of the apartments. Another person with Clark — 19-year-old Jay Ryan Guerrero — was found shot multiple times with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a Central Texas trauma hospital. Police are not releasing the name of the hospital for security reasons, and authorities say neither Clark nor Guerrero lived at the complex.
