GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) – A Rouse High School teacher turned himself in to the Williamson County Jail Tuesday to face a charge of an improper sexual relationship with a student.
Joshua Riggins, of Leander, was placed on administrative leave when the allegations surfaced in October. The district sent a note home to parents explaining that Riggins was on administrative leave.
Now, according to jail records, the World Geography teacher and freshman football coach faces one count of sexual assault of a child and two felony counts of improper relationship between an educator/student. Court documents said the girl was babysitting for the Riggins family. Riggins and the girl stayed up after his wife went to bed, the document said, and the alleged assault happened as the two were watching a movie together.
Leander ISD said Riggins turned in his resignation and is no long an employee in the district.
“I think that we need to put together some kind of parent-teacher program where we’re monitoring what teachers are doing with students,” said Cheryl Crockett, a mother of two Rouse High School students.
Bond for Riggins was set at $600,000.
