AUSTIN (KXAN) – MetroRail is now back up and running on schedule; however passengers this morning encountered some significant delays on their commute.
Capital Metro is blaming communication issues for the delays. More specifically, dispatchers were unable to signal when the line Metrorail uses was clear. Technicians had to go out and manually switch 5 stations from freight over to commuter service. It took about 5 hours to get the problem fixed.
Now that things are running smoothly again, CapMetro officials are making sure this problem doesn’t happen again.
“It was essentially a communications issue on the back-end, so we’re trying to see if there’s something we can do as a backup system so we can prevent this in the future,” said , John Julitz. “The IT people are analyzing what happened and seeing if there’s anything we can do in the future to prevent this.”
Even though their morning commute was impacted, MetroRail passengers should have no issues for their ride home. Other CapMetro services were not impacted by Monday’s problems along the rail line.
