Austin police search for driver in deadly hit-and-run

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Police are trying to find the driver who hit and killed a 25-year-old man trying to walk across U.S. 290 early Saturday morning.

Another driver saw the body lying in the street about 3 a.m. on the east side of U.S. 290 near U.S. 183, close to the Austin Telco Federal Credit Union, and called police. Authorities said Valentin Aguilar Jr. died at the scene. Police believe he was walking north along the highway and was hit by vehicle heading east.

Authorities believe the car that hit Aguilar was a 1997-1999 Nissan Altima. The car is missing its grill and also has damage to one the headlights. Police are asking body shops to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has any other information is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at 512-974-8164.

This was Austin’s 3rd deadly traffic crash of 2015 and the 3rd traffic death of 2015.
