Alleged kidnapper tried to sexually assault girl

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin man is facing a charge after police say he kidnapped a 9-year-old girl, showed her pornography and tried to sexually assault her until she fought him off.

Johan Shareef Al Suhail, 22,  was arrested Friday afternoon after the alleged incident took place Christmas Eve; according to the probable cause affidavit for his arrest, Al Suhail is friends with the victim’s family and asked her if she wanted to go with him to get gas.

According to the affidavit, Al Suhail drove to a wooded area after getting gas and showed the girl a sex scene on his phone. She told investigators she didn’t like what seeing the “nasty stuff” and that she was afraid and tried to run away. She told officers Al Suhail then locked the doors. She said she threw a glass at Al Suhail in an attempt to fend him off.

The ordeal lasted about two hours, the victim said, and her parents kept calling Al Suhail’s phone the whole time. The girl told officers Al Suhail threatened to kill her and her parents if she told them what happened. Finally, she said, he answered the phone and told her to tell her parents everything was okay. He then drove the girl home.

The girl’s father told officers he knew something was wrong as soon as she returned home.

Al Suhail was arrested on a charge of aggravated kidnapping with the intent to commit sexual assault and booked into the Travis County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bond. He also has an immigration hold, meaning he would still be jailed on immigration violations even if he posted bond for the kidnapping charge.
