Austin councilwoman takes second oath of office

AUSTIN (KXAN) — One new Austin city council member took her oath of office for a second time Saturday.

District One councilwoman Ora Houston, who represents much of East Austin, held a swearing-in ceremony at the St. James’ Episcopal Church.

Houston says it was important to hold a ceremony in her district so her constituents can meet their city representative. She says this was just the beginning.

“At least once a quarter we’ll be having at least something in the district so that people can come and learn about issues, express concerns, help us form some solutions,” Houston said.

Austin’s new mayor Steve Adler was on hand for the swearing-in. All ten members of Austin’s new city council and Mayor Adler were sworn into office Tuesday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
