Austin company recalls hummus products

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin company that makes hummus announced a big recall.

Zilks Foods is recalling seven different flavors of its hummus because it could be dangerous for people with peanut allergies.

The company made the voluntary recall after finding out one spice ingredient contains peanut proteins.

The recall affects 8-ounce hummus products from Zilks with expiration dates between Jan. 5 and Feb. 8. Shoppers can return the hummus where they purchased it for a full refund.

Zilks sells its hummus in several states, and make their product in South Austin. The company’s name comes from an abbreviation for Zilker Park.
