BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) — Hundreds of students spent part of their winter break learning what it’s like to be in the military.
300 cadets from nine different states experienced the Texas Wing Civil Air Patrol Encampment at Camp Swift, located north of Bastrop.
The cadets learned military customs, courtesies and how to provide emergency services.
“What they’re gonna learn is how to be better people,” said Maj. Fletcher Share. “When they get home they’ll be saying yes sir, no sir, yes ma’am, no ma’am, to mom and dad, which will startle them. And just making them better people for today, and again, leaders for our communities and our state and nation tomorrow.”
The training week wraps up Sunday with a pass and review formation. Camp Swift hosts the program every summer and winter.
