SWAT standoff ends with officers using Taser on suspect

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A SWAT standoff in East Austin ended when officers tased the suspect who refused to emerge from an apartment.  It began after a knife fight at the Chalmers Courts apartments.  Officers swarmed the 1600 block of 3rd street, near Comal. One of the men involved in the fight retreated into an apartment and refused to come out.

SWAT officers evacuated surrounding apartments and negotiated with the man for at least two hours, before drawing him close enough to deploy a Taser.

The operation closed 2nd, 3rd and 4th Streets, between Attayac Street and Chicon Street. Comal Street and Chalmers Avenue also shut down, between 2nd and 4th streets. Officers are now working to wrap up the investigation and reopen the roadways.
