AUSTIN (KXAN) — Former Longhorn football standout Cedric Benson was charged with public intoxication early Saturday morning.
Austin police say Benson, 31, was arrested at 3:31 a.m. following a verbal disturbance with a woman in a cab at 9th and Lamar. He was booked into the Travis County Jail shortly before 5:30 a.m. Saturday and was released at 9 a.m. the same day.
Back in 2010, Benson was charged after punching an employee at a downtown bar. He later pleaded guilty and spent 20 days in jail.
Benson played for the Longhorns from 2001 through 2004. He was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor earlier this year. After leaving UT, Benson played for the Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals and Green Bay Packers.
