AUSTIN (KXAN) — Gas prices continue to plummet as we experience the lowest prices in five years. It’s a welcome site for holiday travelers.
Nationwide, the Lundberg Survey says the cost has dropped 25 cents a gallon to $2.47 a gallon. in the last two weeks.
The average in Texas sits at $2.17, according to GasBuddy. The site says Austin’s average price is about $2.23 per gallon. AAA says prices could drop even lower.
“With an already abundant supply on the market and lower demand for it, these prices will continue to fall,” said Doug Shupe, AAA spokesperson. “This is really a story that has yet to be told because we don’t know how far these prices are going to go lower.”
With Christmas this week, AAA says about 7.5-million Texans will hit the road to see family.
