As you’re going through that holiday shopping list and trying to find the perfect gift for everyone, the City of Austin has a few things they want you to keep in mind. Purchase with a purpose is their ongoing initiative and Preston Stewart with the city’s economic development department explain it for us. The City of Austin’s Small Business Program, a division of the Economic Development Department, is encouraging Austinites to shop local and shop zero waste this holiday season with the Purchase with a Purpose campaign. Throughout the month of December, the campaign will promote the City’s online local business directory,LocallyAustin.org, and local Shop Zero Waste businesses with gift card giveaways, ads and social media. The City of Austin encourages locally-owned small businesses, including those making or selling products or services that meet the Shop Zero Waste criteria, to register online to be added to the Locally Austin database. To learn more visit the Shop Zero Waste webpage and research local shopping options today at LocallyAustin.org.
