AUSTIN (KXAN) – A Bastrop man has been arrested in connection with last week’s shooting death on Lyons Road.
According to court documents, Steve Alvarado, 48, has been charged with with the murder of 52-year-old Paul Charro as part of a long-standing feud between the two men.
Police say Alvarado shot Charro in the leg in March 2012, but Charro was uncooperative and refused to press charges. Police got involved with the two men again in May 2012 when Alvarado confronted Charro in a parking lot and showed off a handgun tucked inside the waistband of his pants.
According to the affidavit for his arrest, Alvarado blamed Charro for the death of Alvarado’s brother of an apparent drug overdose.
Family members told officers Alvarado threatened them several times, even saying he would kill Charro.
On the day of the homicide, police say Alvarado drove to Charro’s house and Charro rushed to the door to speak with him. Then, witnesses heard a loud bang and saw Alvarado’s truck speed away. Charro was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alvarado later confessed to a friend that he “killed a man,” detectives wrote in the arrest affidavit.
