Family says slain elderly couple were ‘kind, open-hearted’

Sidney and Billie Shelton

AUSTIN (KXAN) —  While authorities continue to investigate the deaths of an elderly couple in Central Austin, the victims’ family says they are also waiting on the Austin Police Department to give them more insight into how their loved ones died. Billie, 83, and Sidney Shelton, 85, were found dead inside their home in the 1700 block of Brentwood Street on Monday morning. Police have not released how the victims died, but their deaths are classified as homicides.

“We are saddened by the unexpected, devastating loss of our loved ones,” the Shelton family said in statement to KXAN News. “They were kind, open-hearted, loving Christians who enjoyed visiting with family and friends, supporting them in times of need and in joyous occasions. We would like to thank our extended family, friends, co-workers and neighbors for their condolences, kind words, and offers of support.”

In regards to the investigation, the Shelton family said police are “still piecing together the tragic events that occurred that night and continues to search for the assailants.” Police said they have not made an arrest or identified a suspect(s) in the case, so there is still a public safety concern.

Funeral services for the Shelton’s will be held at Northwest Baptist Church on Monday, Dec. 22 at 11 a.m.
