AUSTIN (KXAN) — Two semitrucks collided on Interstate 35 in South Austin early Wednesday morning, spilling one truck’s load of grapefruit all over the highway. The wreck shut down two of the main lanes of northbound I-35, between Ben White Boulevard and Woodward Street. Texas Department of Transportation crews worked to clear all the fruit off the road, which has since reopened.

The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. An Austin police watch commander said it appears one truck sideswiped another. The driver that got hit apparently didn’t realize the back of the truck had opened, spilling the citrus as it drove toward downtown.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, and no one was hurt. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
