AUSTIN (AP) — Two Austin men have each been sentenced to two years in prison for sexually assaulting a teenage runaway who says she was gang-raped. The Austin American-Statesman reports Juan Ortega, 26, and Edgar Perez, 28, were dealt the punishment after they each pleaded guilty to a second-degree felony offense of sexually assaulting a child. They will have to register as sex offenders upon their release. Cases against two other men are pending and three other men are wanted by police.
Authorities say the 13-year-old girl ran away from a treatment center in June 2013 before being picked up by the men. She says she was assaulted by as many as 10 men over a period of hours. Defense attorneys say the girl told the men she was older than she was.
