WIMBERLEY, Texas (KXAN) — Police arrested two 17-year-old boys Wednesday after a rash of break-ins in downtown Wimberley.
Hays County Deputies showed up at Wimberley Square when someone walking their dog called police about 5 a.m. saying they heard breaking glass and saw two people running from the area. Police found that 19 businesses had been burglarized late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
“This area may get the occasional shoplifter things like that, but not to the extent that we had this morning,” said Hays County Deputy Stephen Traeger.
Christmas time in Wimberley is busy for shop owners on the square. Usually the parking lot would be full, but Wednesday morning it sat empty as investigators collected evidence.
“You’re trying to work as honest as you can and these guys, these crooks, they do whatever they want,” said Hugo Campuzano, owner of the Wimberley House of Silver and the Silver Queen. Campuzano said the suspects broke the window in one store, but the metal bolt door kept them from getting in. His other store wasn’t as lucky, where Campuzano said they stole jewelry and money.
Hays County deputies later arrested Levi Travis Weed and Ricky Lee Saine Ehlert and booked them into the Hays County Jail. Police said they stole money, jewelry, electronic devices, tobacco and alcohol from the stores.
Weed was arrested in June for breaking into five vehicle and stealing a firearm, according to online jail records.
Anyone with additional information about the break-ins are asked to call the Hays County Sheriff’s Office at 512-393-7896. Deputies said they were able to collect some of the items.
