AUSTIN (KXAN) – The man shot and killed in the 3500 block of Lyons Road in East Austin may have known his killer, police said Wednesday.
“I’ve been here 12 years,” said neighbor Linda Ruiz. “I’ve never seen or heard anything like this.”
Ruiz says everything happened quickly.
“I was in my back room and I heard a gunshot, and a couple of minutes later I heard the sirens. So I walked outside and I saw the cops,” she Ruiz. “I started walking towards where they were going and I saw a dead body.”
A Hispanic man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene, between Cherico and Gunter Streets shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Detectives are looking for a red, extended cab Ford F-150 that could be involved in the shooting. It was last seen going north on Springdale. Investigators tell KXAN the victim may have known the driver of the truck.
“Oh gosh, I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it,” said Ruiz.
Recess was suspended at nearby GoValle Elementary School while police investigated. Ruiz is grateful children weren’t around to see what she saw.
“The detectives are speaking with witnesses,” said senior APD officer Veneza Bremner. “Even the smallest piece of information that may seem insignificant to you could be the information detectives need to clear this case.”
Investigators ask anyone who saw or heard something around 12:30 p.m. to call the homicide office at (512) 477-3588 or crime stoppers at 512-472-TIPS (8477).
