Firefighters team up to feed seniors

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Local senior citizens enjoyed today’s 12th annual Senior Holiday Luncheon, provided by the Austin Fire Department, several area businesses and many volunteers.

KXAN’s Jim Spencer was an invited guest, and helped serve some of the more than 500 Christmas-style lunch plates and desserts at the Conley-Guerrero Senior Center.

Retired Austin Fire fighter and well-known cook Tim La Fuente started the annual tradition 12 years ago, as a much smaller event.

“We started with just 5 turkeys and fed about 140 people, and here we are 12 years later feeding over 500,” he explained.
