TAYLOR, Texas (KXAN) — Classes will be canceled Wednesday after a fire damaged the middle wing of Taylor Middle School. The district’s superintendent said the fire started about 7 p.m. Tuesday and was contained about an hour later.
Superintendent Jerry Vaughn said a custodian and assistant principal were still in the school when they heard crackling and saw smoke — then called 911. The fire reportedly started in a home economics classroom with a stove. A hallway outside the room also had smoke and water damage. Because electricity was cut off to the affected part of the school, officials decided to cancel classes Wednesday for the junior high students. Staff members are still being asked to come to work.
