AUSTIN (KXAN) — A woman was found dead in a northwest Austin home Saturday afternoon, and police are calling her death a homicide.

Officers responded to a home in the 4600 block of Tamarack Trail about 12:10 p.m. Saturday after a family member called 911 to report they’d found a body inside the house.

Police say the victim, 53-year old Kathy Blair, suffered trauma but did not provide further details on how she died.

Richard Waller, director of the Christian Youth Band of Austin has been a close friend of Blair for the last 10 years.

She was a professionally acclaimed singer who has been on a mission the last 20 years to make sure kids were taught music well.

She took over the Christian Choral Society of Austin which is a high level music program for homeschool students. She taught 250 to 300 students a year ages 4 to 18.

“Her biggest thing was her love for really teaching how to do music well,” said Waller.

Right now, homeschool parents who were part of a current musical performance are meeting to figure out how to share the news with the students.

A major fall production is scheduled for Thursday night. A decision is still pending on whether the show will go on.

If you have information regarding the death of Ms. Blair, call 911 or the APD homicide tipline at 512-477-3588.
