Event showcases work of Austin’s homeless artists

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin organization is helping the homeless population through artistic expression. The 22nd annual Art From the Streets features the work of artists without a home.

While the event is open to the public, a $5 donation is recommended to help the organization. Attendees can also buy the artwork, and all proceeds go directly to the artists. Organizers say that income is otherwise difficult to come by for many of the artists.

“It’s a win-win situation,” artist Hugh Miles, said. “They see something they like and at the same time we get to make a little profit, you know, to help our situation, make it a lot better and everyone walks away happy.”

Art From the Streets aims to provide a safe and encouraging environment for Austin’s homeless and at-risk population. Click here for more information.

You can check out the event again Sunday at the Austin Convention Center. It runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
