AUSTIN (KXAN) – A north Austin daycare center was destroyed Saturday when fire ripped through the building. AFD says electrical failure started the fire.

Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday first responders were called to ABC Child Development Center at 11812 Millwright Parkway. The call was upgraded to two alarms a short time later.

The daycare was closed at the time, and no one was inside. No injures were reported. Posts on the KXAN Facebook page say the daycare was filled with thick black smoke.

The building collapsed in several locations due to damage from the fire. One structure nearby received minor heat damage, according to fire officials.

AFD warned nearby home and business owners to expect possible utility outages in the area as gas and electrical lines were damaged.

Damage is estimated at $500,00 to the structure and $200,000 in contents. AFD crews will stay on-scene overnight Saturday to monitor hot spots.
