Danielle Kilgore with Sit Means Sit stopped by on Wednesday to share some tips on preventing undesirable behavior in our dogs. The top tip is to not encourage jumping. So if your dog jumps up on you, refrain from enforcing the behavior with petting and additional attention, and try instead to work on behaviors like “sit” when someone enters your home. Another thing to keep in mind is that a leash is your friend. Leashes provide a great way to guide your dog when they try to jump on guest or onto the furniture. You’ll also want to refrain from high energy greetings. They can often encourage unwanted behavior like jumping. Another great tip is to address play biting early by redirecting the dogs energy focusing instead on a toy. The last tip is to allow other dogs to teach your dog how to play. Well behaved dogs that you know are the best role models for your puppy.
