Texas VFW to review and correct financial records

AUSTIN (KXAN) – Because of KXAN’s investigation, the Texas VFW is now scrambling to clean-up and correct its financial audits and reports to the internal revenue service in a form all non-profits must submit called a 990.

The Texas VFW’s lawyer, Jennifer Riggs sent us an email saying:

“The VFW is looking into any discrepancies in the figures between the audit and the 990s and plan to amend the returns, if need be, to correct any discrepancies,” wrote Riggs.

At least two professional fundraisers hired by the Texas VFW are also not filing financial reports required to be reported to the Texas Secretary of State. We’ve asked the Texas VFW to tell us how much those solicitors have raised in unreported donations as far back as 2001. But the Texas VFW has refused.
