AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin police say a man was killed when he was hit by a car while trying to cross southbound Ed Bluestein Blvd. near Manor Road Saturday night.

Officers responded to 7000 Ed Bluestein Blvd. about 10:10 p.m. Saturday. The victim was pronounced dead a short time later. Police say he was about 18 years old. The driver who hit the man remained on-scene and has not been charged, according to APD.

Authorities say the victim did not use a nearby pedestrian bridge. Instead, the victim climbed through a hole in a chain link fence under the bridge and attempted to cross the highway, said Corporal Edward Johnson with the Austin Police Department. Johnson said the fence is in place to prevent pedestrians from crossing the highway’s main lanes.

Police have not released the victim’s name. Vehicular homicide detectives continue to investigate the collision. Another pedestrian was killed in 2013 while trying to cross Ed Bluestein Blvd. in the same area. Authorities say that victim did not use the pedestrian bridge either.
