AUSTIN (KXAN) — A rocky start to the Fun Fun Fun Festival on Friday left crowds frustrated. Some festival-goers in line outside waited hours before finally getting in the venue. The festival sent out a statement Friday, sticking by their strict “no refunds policy.” They attributed some of the problems to the festival being displaced in 2013, forcing them to create a completely new layout and process due to renovations at Auditorium Shores.
“When we first saw the line, we really couldn’t believe what it was for,” says Andrea, who’s been to the festival three times now.
“It was pretty upsetting,” said another attendee. “We were over the river with all of the mosquitoes for about an hour, hour and 10 minutes, and then after that it took another hour.”
A two-and-a-half hour wait, meant missing the bands they paid to see.
“It sounds like excuses, it doesn’t sound like they were prepared or knew what they were doing,” said Andrea. “It’s hard to believe they could let that happen. Especially with the bands that were playing yesterday A lot of favorite bands that hardly ever play, ever tour. They don’t come around enough to say I’ll see them next time, they’ll come around. It was a lot of disappointment.”
Andrea says thankfully Saturday was much smoother.
“Every festival has their hiccups, every festival. Yesterday was a major one. I’m not worried about Fun Fun Fun becoming ACL, because I think they have a vision, which is to make it different than mainstream ACL.”
Festival officials say they increased manpower on Saturday, and lines were not an issue. They anticipate the third and final day running smoothly as well. They estimate the festival brings in 20,000 people per day, the most in festival history.
