AUSTIN (KXAN) — The final filing deadline in the Austin mayoral race was Monday and the reported amounts raised create a clear divide in candidates.

The three candidates being considered frontrunners in the race include attorney Steve Adler and current council members Sheryl Cole and Mike Martinez. All three have raised and spent well over $100,000.

The Martinez campaign leads the way in spending with more than $184,000, Adler’s campaign spent approximately $175,000 and Cole’s campaign spending about $153,000. All three top spending candidates have purchased time for television ads.

Randall Stephens, candidate for Austin mayor, reported spending less than $200 on his campaign and David Orshalick less than $25. None of the remaining candidates filed the required spending report.

So, where does all that money come from?

Cole’s campaign funds came solely from donations while Adler and Martinez had donations in addition to using their own money for campaign expenses. Reports show that Martinez himself loaned his campaign $100,000 and Adler $306,000.
