AUSTIN (KXAN)- A man was rescued by first responders on Sunday after they say he jumped or fell into Lake Austin after his dog.

Austin-Travis County EMS received the call at 4:13p.m. that a man in his 50’s had gone underwater near the 14000 block of Low Water Crossing Road.

Rescue crews were able to get him out of the water within five minutes but had a hard time resuscitating him.

“As I made my way around to the shore, the other units arrived from Lake Travis Fire Rescue and they were already dressed,” said ATCEMS Commander Craig Smith. “We met at the water’s edge, pinpointed where we thought the point last seen was based on the information provided by the witness and they entered the water.”

They performed CPR for more than 40 minutes before the man regained consciousness.

When they sent to man to UMC Brackenridge via Starflight medics said he lost his pulse again.

During the flight he was brought back again and was in critical, life threatening condition.

The dog is said to be fine. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
