Food Bank hopes for pumpkin carving fundraiser success

Austin (KXAN)- Only a few days left to get that pumpkin out on the porch and the Capitol Area Food Bank was helping people do just that on Sunday.

Families headed out to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden for the pumpkins and special carving techniques given from “Professor Pumpkin,” Marla Ripperda of the Texas Society of Sculptors.

“This is a really accessible way for families, little kids, adults, grandparents, to all get together and create a work of art all while helping the Food Bank,” said the Umlauf’s Director of Programs, Diane Sikes.

It was the second year for the fundraiser, which brought in over 600 pounds of food last year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
