Dog lovers show off their Pittie Pride

Austin (KXAN)- Lovers of all breeds of dogs were out in full force Sunday proclaiming that pit-bulls make great pets.

The Pittie Pride event took place at Republic Square Park and wasn’t just limited to pit-bulls.

Bull Terriers got a lot of attention. For responsible owners they are loving, loyal companions andoften therapy dogs, search-and-rescue dogs, even drug-sniffing K9s.

Guests included mixed martial arts star Gordon “Shotgun” Shell. He’s best known for challenging convicted dog fighter and football star Michael Vick to a cage match.

“Being an adrenaline junkie like I am I like to go out on the cruelty teams, so that started me trying to fight and preventing the dog fighting,” he said.

The festivities benefited Love-a-Bull, a local organization focused on education and rescuing pit-bulls from shelters. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
