Austin (KXAN) – Young athletes are at the highest risk for concussions but a new test could provide a way to make recognizing them easier.
Immediate Postconcussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing, or IMPACT testing, provides a baseline that can be compared to post-concussion testing if the athlete suffers a head injury later.
Athletes 10-years of age and older are the best candidates for the test. It measures attention, visual memory, reaction time and more.
The brief series of tests take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete.
